Western United vs Wellington Phoenix

The inaugural match of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season gets underway on Friday night at Ironbark Fields as Western United host Wellington Phoenix at 7pm AEDT.

Western finished the 2023/24 campaign in third place but were outdone by Newcastle in the elimination final.

There are a few new faces which have arrived over the off season with promising Young Matildas shot stopper Chloe Lincoln now calling United home after making the switch from Canberra.

Their opponents came in eighth last season and have brought in Portuguese goalkeeper Carolina Vilao and Mebae Tanaka from Japan as they look to fight for finals this season.

Central Coast Mariners vs Sydney FC

The pre-selected match set to be broadcast live and free on 10 Bold and 10 Play is set to be a cracker as Mariners host Sydney FC at 2:15pm AEDT on Saturday.

A replay of last year's semi final is on the cards with Mariners out for revenge against Sydney.

In their first year back in the competition since 2009, the Mariners were the team to watch last season and will be looking to kick on this season.

They will be coming up against their ex-striker with Kyah Simon having made the switch to the Sky Blues after spending last season in Gosford.

Sydney have lost Cortnee Vine, Jada Whyman and Charlotte McLean but major off season departures certainly have not stopped them from achieving success as they aim for their third straight championship.

Canberra United vs Brisbane Roar

Next up, we will be heading to the capital as Antoni Jagarinec begins his role as head coach of Canberra when they host Brisbane at 4pm AEDT on Saturday.

With their future confirmed for the foreseeable future, Canberra have kicked on throughout the offseason by locking in star Michelle Heyman while bringing in Maja Markovski and Jynaya Dos Santos to offset the departures of Vesna Milivojevic, Chloe Lincoln and Sasha Grove.

Meanwhile, Roar have signaled their desire to further develop Queensland home grown talent with recently capped CommBank Matildas forward Sharn Freier back again alongside the experienced Tameka Yallop.

Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory

The third and final match that forms part of Saturday's triple header has Melbourne Victory making the trip to ServiceFM Stadium at 5pm AEDT.

Adelaide were the unfortunate wooden spoon recipients last season. It was a season to forget for the Reds who will be more optimistic for the new campaign following the return of Fiona Worts after her spell with the Sky Blues.

After bowing out in last season's Elimination Finals, Victory's squad has remained largely unchanged with Emily Gielnik back the leading the line while Alex Chidiac will be providing the spark in the middle of the pitch.

Melbourne City vs Perth Glory

The City Football Academy will play host to Melbourne City vs Perth Glory on Sunday with kick off scheduled for 3pm AEDT.

Last season's Grand Finalists, Melbourne City, will be under new leadership following Michael Matricciani's arrival.

The new coach has already got off to a positive start with his side having secured a quarter finals berth in the AFC Women's Champions League.

They have brought in some fresh faces with the likes of Mariana Speckmaier and TJ Vlajnic making the switch as they eye the Championship this season.

Glory will also have a new face in the dugout with former Macarthur Rams coach Stephen Peters heading west.

They finished 10th last time out and will be chasing their first finals appearance since 2018/19, however they will have to do without Tash Rigby after the club icon decided to hang up the boots at the end of last season.

Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers

First round action will come to an end in Cessnock as the Jets come up against Wanderers at 4pm AEDT.

It was a memorable 2023/24 season for the side from the Hunter as they sneaked into the Finals before knocking off Western United and progressing to the Elimination Finals.

They will be without the services of Sarina Bolden, Gema Simon and Melina Ayres this time around but will be buoyed by the capture of Sheridan Gallagher who returns to the Ninja A-League from NRLW side Newcastle Knights.

Western Sydney were on the cusp of finals football last season before ultimately missing out at the expense of the Jets.
