Football Review: October 2024

Your recap of a massive month of football across 10 Play in October

It was a bumper month of football across 10 Play, with countless of spectacular moments.

It is now time to take stock and review the very best of what October had to offer in the football world.

Check out some of the links below to the major events that took place over the course of October.

Subway Socceroos: Popovic's reign gets off to the perfect start

Tony Popovic made his debut in the Socceroos dugout as they came up against China in Adelaide at the beginning of October.

The new man in charge is responsible with turning around the Socceroos' fortunes who came into the clash with the solitary point to their name after their first two World Cup Qualifiers.

Following on from that clash in Adelaide, Popovic's men travelled to Saitama for one of the most challenging matches.

The Blue Samurai have had an absolutely lethal start to the latest set of qualifiers, putting seven unanswered goals past China before knocking off Bahrain 5-0.

The Socceroos' record against their hosts also did not make for pretty reading with their last win arriving all the way back in 2009.

With the odds stacked against them, see how the Green and Gold performed in front over 60,000 supporters in Saitama.

The Matildas then crossed the border to take on Germany in Duisburg.

They were soundly beaten by the Germans at the Olympics which may have been their source of inspiration as Kyra Cooney Cross' first goal in Matildas colours stole the show on what was legendary striker Alexandra Popp's farewell match.
