Communications company ItalyComunica has announced that it has bottled the air surrounding Lake Como, which you can now purchase for €9.90 ($AU 16).
Each can contain 400 millilitres of “100% authentic air” collected from the stunning location where the films ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘House of Gucci’ were shot.
The number of visitors to Lake Como is steadily increasing after more than 5.6 million people visit in 2023, according to the Lombardy Tourism Bureau.
A spokesperson for ItalyComunica told CNN that the aim for selling canned air is to “create a souvenir that could be easily transported in a suitcase for tourists” and “something original, fun and even provocative.”
“It’s not a product. It’s a tangible memory that you carry in your heart,” Davide Abagnale told CNN.
Abagnale added that tourists can repurpose the can once empty as a souvenir pen holder.
Como mayor Alessandro Rapinese told CNN the novelty souvenir wouldn’t be his first idea.
“It’s a novel idea, but not for everyone,” he told CNN.
“But as mayor of one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, if someone wants to take some of their air home, that’s fine as long as they also take beautiful memories of this area.”
