Janine Yarnell from Ashford in Kent recognised her cat Bubba on a local Facebook lost and found group.
After a trip to the vet, her cat’s identity was confirmed.
Talking to the BBC, Yarnell said that Bubba “always meant a great deal” to her, but the hope of finding her safely had started to diminish after so many years.
Bubba was microchipped when she joined the Yarnell family, but unfortunately, the chip’s contact details were out of date.
Bubba had gone missing on 8 October 2019.
The kitty had been spotted on the street and was uploaded to Facebook on 12 November 2024.
Bubba is now being showered with lots of love and attention at home.
Ms Yarnell said: "She's been on the streets for five years, she needs time to adjust."
