Couple Slammed For Serving Guests Food Based On Their Wealth

A newlywed couple has been slammed after they served their wealthy guests fancy meals while serving other guests they considered to be lower-class "apple slices and Oreos."

An anonymous guest took to the popular Reddit thread 'Wedding Shaming' to share their experience at this wedding, titling the post: "Wealthier guests were served better alcohol and food than the rest."

The poster explained that the couple had "spared no expense" when it came to serving those who held a similar financial status as the groom, who came from a lavish background.

The guest added that the groom's mother, who had funded the wedding but had not organised anything, left the ceremony in tears because of how the guests were treated.

"I'll start this off by saying the groom's family is an extremely wealthy family who paid for the wedding, 'no expenses spared.'

"The groom is stubborn and refused parents' involvement, only accepted their money," they wrote.

"We arrive at the wedding about two hours away from hometown (had to book hotel). The ceremony is fine, after there is a cocktail hour in the blazing sun, with one open bar and one bartender for about 150 guests.

"Not a single hors d'oeuvre is being passed around. We then enter a large plastic tent where the dinner is to take place in the dead heat of summer at around 3pm when the sun is still blazing hot. With only one door for ventilation," she added.

The guest explained that despite the discomfort, they decided to stay in the hope that the dinner would make up for it.

However, this was not the case.

"Our table is at the back (this is fine, we're not close to the groom or bride, just family friends). The meal takes three hours to be served in it's totality, it was supposed to be a seven-course meal, but one of the dishes was missed.

"It was buffet style at the tables, so when we got the 'main' it was steak. It was four slices of steak for eight people. Two wine bottles were left at each table, and there was no bar during dinner, which was fine.

"However, we slowly started to realise that the 'very wealthy' guests at the wedding had been giving a lot more and high-end wine bottles, scotch, tequila. And a plethora more food."

"At the end of the night, there was no dessert, just a table of Oreo boxes and cut-up apple slices."

Reddit users quickly called out the "tacky" wedding, with one person commenting, "I'm very embarrassed just reading about it."

"'Tiered' guests is a new, tacky thing," another wrote.

"I feel for the mother of the groom," one person commented.
